Professor Qin Jian, Dean of the ICI, delivered a special lecture on the theme of "The Power of Replication" to students in the lecture hall on the first floor of the Public Teaching Building on October 25th. More than 280 people, including administrative staff and students of ICI, attended in the lecture.
Prof. Qin Jian started the lecture by introducing an international design exhibition he had once curated with the theme of "the Power of Replication", and then showed how to understand the topic of "Replication" in contemporary art and design, and put forward some thoughts. He pointed out that the conceptual meaning of replication can be extended to various perspectives and connotations such as copying, imitation, appropriation, tampering, collaging and pasting. Meanwhile, the replication can also be a way of learning by imitation, or a way of creative thinking and practice in the practice of contemporary art and design. From the latter point of view, the meaning of replication can be constantly expanded and there is no absolute interpretation.
Afterwards, Prof. Qin Jian explained the concepts and creation methods related to the ways of "replication" by citing some examples of classic works in the history of modern and contemporary art and design works, and then emphasized that the significance of contemporary creation of art was questioning the concept first before a breakthrough could be made.
Finally, Prof. Qin Jian encouraged students to strengthen cultural self-confidence, integrate personal study and development with the national needs, and strive to increase their consciousness of creativity and innovation, and improve their quality and ability, so as to contribute to the national development.
