The exhibition of Rehearsal·Future organized by ICI Open Museum was officially launched as scheduled on the morning of December 9. Attendees from relevant departments of Zhangzhou Economic Development Zone, museums, art galleries, art centres and related enterprises in Xiamen, as well as departments and colleges of XMU, other colleges and universities, leaders from the high and primary schools attached to XMU, and ICI faculty gathered together to witness the opening ceremony of the exhibition and paid a visit to it.
Wang Yi, Chair of the ICI Council, presided over the opening ceremony. Dean and Professor Qin Jian delivered an opening address, in which he stated that the Open Museum was designed to be research oriented aiming to facilitate the generation and spread of new knowledge and to create a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary platform of exchange for creative design education and academic research. The Open Museum also commits itself to opening and interfusion of multi-disciplines and stimulation of innovation vitality of the contemporary era so as to explore the infinite possibilities of the social and the spiritual spaces. Afterwards, Dean Qin Jian opened the skylight marking the launch of the Open Museum of ICI.
Subsequently, the teaching assistant Zhang Ziyu led the guests to the exhibition works. The exhibition guide introduced the curatorial ideas and design concepts of the exhibition, as well as the creating background, logic, and presentation methods of the works on display. The works displayed in this exhibition were created by 19 young artists and designers from domestic art and design colleges. The 11 pieces/sets of works on display cross the boundaries of multiple disciplines, including visual arts, design, sociology, psychology, biology, etc., and are presented in multi-dimensional media such as images, sounds, installations, paintings, posters, etc. The themes of the works are inclusive, encompassing retrospections of the past, reflections on current issues, and visions of the future world.
As the Open Museum is newly established, ICI hopes that it can go beyond the pure functions of exhibition and preservation of traditional museums and truly become an “Open Museum”. The museum will continue to encourage fellow practitioners from different backgrounds to come here, explore new scenarios, build new dialogues, and stimulate new sparks of thought. Next, the museum will launch more forms of online and offline academic forums, lectures, and workshops in collaboration with local institutions, hoping to radiate from ICI to the world, and attract more thinkers and dynamic practitioners to rehearse the future together.
