All new things are invaluable, because they have tremendous potential and infinite vitality to grow.
The newly-established Institute of Creativity and Innovation (ICI) serves as an important platform for Xiamen University to implement its international education strategy, carry out all-round and in-depth cooperation with global leading universities and play an active role in global educational arena. The ICI is also critical to deepen the reform of talent training, step up the “Double First-Class” initiative and cultivate innovative talents for the country’s long-term development.
The ICI will offer international education in design on the basis of the fine traditions of both Xiamen University and the University for the Creative Arts (UCA). Xiamen University is the first key comprehensive university in China to establish an institute of arts. In the past 40 years, building on the heritage of education and research in humanities and social sciences, Xiamen University has cultivated a group of artists outstanding in theory, professional skills and innovation spirit. A University for the Creative Arts have been providing creative education for 160 years. It is the 2nd largest provider of creative education in Europe. It also excels in curriculum and teaching quality among other arts and design universities in the UK. The University focuses on creative education and has developed a unique education system, with a number of nationally and internationally renowned creative figures including Oscar-winning filmmakers, Turner Prize nominated artists and fashion designers.
The ICI is created with the joint efforts of the educational authorities of both China and the UK, experts and scholars from Xiamen University and UCA, and many others from industries, society and also students and parents, for whom we are full of gratitude. We are full of confidence that the future of ICI will be promising.
Our college is located in Zhangzhou campus of Xiamen University with a picturesque scenery. The architecture of Zhangzhou campus follows the Tan Kah Kee style which are featured by its grandness and the blending of east and west characteristics. Today, the ICI has its first cohort of freshmen. We believe that the ICI will be the cradle of the future leaders of creative industry who are committed to changing the world with design. Creation and innovation will shape the future.
With warm regards,
